Privacy notice

Draft notice for a demonstration site — it describes what Boraak's software actually does today, but hasn't been reviewed by a lawyer and isn't a substitute for one before real users rely on it.

What we collect

Your name and email when you register, the listings and messages you create, homes you save, and tour/offer requests you send or receive.

Cookies

Boraak only uses cookies that make the site work or remember your own choices. None are used for advertising or shared with anyone, and they stay on your device.

  • Sign-in (session): keeps you signed in.
  • Language and theme (lang, theme): English or Spanish, light or dark.
  • Search preferences (gridSize, listStyle, mapSize, searchView, searchLayout, heroMode, budget): how you like to see results, and your last "Looking to" choice and price range. Up to a year.
  • Search area (lastArea): the last city, county or ZIP you searched, for "New listings" on the home page. 90 days.
  • Your location (nearMe): only if you press "Use my location" and your browser asks you and you allow it. Rounded to about half a mile, kept 30 days, and "Turn off" deletes it.
  • Recently viewed homes (recentHomes): the last 12 listings you opened, for "Pick up where you left off". 90 days.
  • This notice (cookieOk): that you've seen it.

You can delete cookies any time in your browser settings.

Private addresses

A pre-foreclosure listing's exact street address is stored separately and only shown to the seller and to buyers the seller explicitly approves.

IP addresses and visit records

Like every website, Boraak receives your device's IP address (internet address) with each page you open, along with your browser type. We use it in these ways:

  • Visit log: for each visitor and day we record the IP address, the approximate city, region and country it points to, your browser type, the first page you opened, the site you came from, how many pages you viewed, and your account if you're signed in. We use it to understand how the site is used and to spot abuse.
  • Security log: when you sign up, sign in (or a sign-in fails), change your password, delete your account, post a listing, make an offer or send a message, we record the action with the IP address, approximate location and browser. We use it to protect accounts and stop spam and fraud.
  • Nearby listings: the approximate city from your IP address can choose which new listings the home page shows.
  • Abuse limits: counters keyed by IP address briefly limit things like repeated sign-in attempts; they expire within a day.
  • Statistics: Vercel Web Analytics counts page views without cookies and without storing your IP address.

Visit and security records are kept for 90 days and then deleted automatically. Only Boraak's administrators can see them; we don't sell them or use them for advertising. Our hosting provider (Vercel) also keeps short-lived server logs. If your browser sends the Global Privacy Control signal, we don't add you to the visit log (security records still apply). To ask what we hold about your IP address or to have it deleted, contact us through the Help page.

Sharing

We don't sell personal information. Listing photos and data are hosted with our infrastructure providers (currently Vercel and Neon) to run the site.

Boraak uses a few cookies to keep you signed in and remember your choices, like your language, search area, budget and recently viewed homes. No advertising cookies. Learn more
